Ohio Update January 30
Tillie, Dan, and Gail have now met most of the people in Ohio who are working for electoral reform. So far the gatherings have been social, but the talk is about the issue of what should be done here in Ohio to keep it in the spotlight regarding investigating voter repression and possible electoral fraud.
A snowstorm may prevent some of the residents in the outlying areas from joining us at several meetings today, but it is anticipated that the three meetings will be well attended.
The first meeting is at noon, when Larry English, an "information quality" expert will facilitate a discussion of the voting process, with the goal of finding the "breaks" in the process so that we can begin the task of working on improvements. Larry is the expert that Gail believes is going to be invaluable regarding electoral reform and has high hopes that they will be working together in the future.
The second meeting, at 4 pm, is the citizens' organizational meeting. Bev
Harris of
www.blackboxvoting.org will be there. It is expected to be attended by about 100 people, and it is at this meeting that the hopes of all of us that the citizens of Ohio create an organization that will sustain the hard work ahead.
The third meeting, at 7 pm, will be open to the public so that anyone interested can hear the experts, Larry English and Bev Harris, discuss electoral reform.
A full day, especially for Tillie and Gail, who, like teenagers at a slumber party, stayed up until 1:30 am talking last night, about... well, we talked about how at risk our country is and what hard work this is as we try to take back our voting process from corporate interests. The plus for us is that we are meeting many, many wonderful people.
The next post will probably come from Healdsburg because we're catching a very early flight tomorrow morning.
Gail.
